Solar Star I, together with Solar Star II, was a groundbreaking, standard-setting facility that was the world’s single largest solar PV project. At the time of its design, it blazed the trail for other mega-scale solar farms. Solar Star II provides 276 megawatts of electricity. On 3,230 acres, the two projects employ approximately 1.7 million solar panels on single-axis trackers.

Local and national electrical code provisions did not yet address PV applications of such large size and scope. KWRE team members stepped in to work with inspectors on innovative engineering analyses, and collaborated with certified testing laboratories to set the precedent for codes and approved equipment to make this and other projects feasible at a larger scale than ever before. On top of that, the plant was still brought online ahead of schedule.
