Power Players Spotlight: Meet Andrew DobbinsWhat is your approach to helping clients meet their renewable energy goals?
“I recognize that developers work hard to strike the right balance of having enough land under control to execute a successful project. I focus on maximizing the use of available land, which requires a strong understanding of the drivers behind electrical cost and energy output, as well as the risks that come with developing in challenging terrain or soil conditions.”
What is your favorite source of renewable energy and why?
“Solar energy is my favorite because of the dynamic projects I get to work on in this industry. I’m also excited by the advancements being made in offshore wind and tidal energy technologies. Outside of renewables, I’m closely following the progress in nuclear energy generation. I believe the energy industry will continue to deliver viable generation and storage solutions that help keep our electrical grids diverse, resilient, and ready to meet growing demand.”
What project is your favorite and why?
“It’s hard to pick just one. I’ve been fortunate to work on 4 GW of solar projects across 13 states. What stands out most in each project are the relationships built while solving complex design and construction challenges. This industry is full of fantastic people who are eager to collaborate and work hard to find solutions. I’ve learned a lot from great mentors and partners along the way.”
What’s your favorite solution to a challenge you’ve faced?
“One challenge I’ve enjoyed solving involves managing stormwater runoff where it intersects with perimeter security fences. Finding creative solutions that reduce the impact to site security during large storm events has been especially rewarding.”
Why are you passionate about renewable energy?
“I’m passionate about the progress being made in renewable energy generation and storage because I believe in a future where the grid is resilient, diverse, low-cost, and sustainable. On a personal level, I find the work fulfilling because it constantly challenges me to think creatively.”
Outside of KWRE, what are your favorite hobbies?
“I love spending time with my family. My wife and I have five kids, ages 2 to 11, so our life is full of singing, carpools, Lego masterpieces, trampoline tricks, and beach days. There’s never a quiet moment! We always have small house and yard projects going, and I try to play basketball as often as I can.”

What’s been your favorite moment at KWRE?
“Rather than one specific moment, what stands out most is the team culture. Even when things get tough, there’s a great vibe. Everyone is open, honest, and working toward the same goal. No one gets left behind—when there’s a tight deadline, the senior team members stay late too.”
