Power Players Spotlight: Meet Charlie Conarro

What is your approach to helping clients meet their renewable energy goals?
“While my role at KWRE focuses on hydrology and hydraulics, I work closely with our team to support all aspects of a renewable energy project. My approach involves integrating environmentally conscious solutions that align with the client’s goals.”

What is your favorite source of renewable energy and why?
“Solar energy. I like its scalability—from small residential systems to large utility-scale projects. Plus, advancements in storage and efficiency are making it increasingly accessible.”

What project is your favorite and why?
“My favorite project involved developing a ditch and drainage system for a site located along massive rolling hills. While the project presented unique challenges, it was rewarding to design a system that effectively managed runoff while protecting the surrounding environment.”

What’s your favorite solution to a challenge you’ve faced?
“One of my favorite solutions came from a project where we had to manage runoff from multiple offsite drainage systems. Our design had to account for and intricately manage the site run-on, which we accomplished by implementing a combination of detention basins and flow-routing techniques. This approach effectively controlled the runoff and ensured the site was protected from flooding.”

Why are you passionate about renewable energy?
“Renewable energy represents the intersection of innovation, sustainability, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the planet. Knowing that my work contributes to a cleaner, greener future is incredibly motivating.”

Outside of KWRE, what are your favorite hobbies?
“I love playing golf, basketball, and tennis! I also enjoy reading and listening to podcasts, which help me stay informed and expand my knowledge outside of work.”

What are you currently reading?
“I’m currently reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. It’s an excellent book on building positive habits and making small changes that lead to significant results.”

What’s been your favorite moment at KWRE?
“My favorite moment came while working on a project with a complex watershed. Collaboration between our team of experts led to some creative problem-solving and we were able to deliver the best solution for the client. It was incredibly rewarding to see our efforts come together.”
