Power Players Spotlight: Meet Nektarios MatheouWhat is your approach to helping clients meet their renewable energy goals?
“It all starts with truly understanding the client’s vision—what they’re aiming to achieve and why it matters to them. From there, we become an extension of their development team. Their goals become our goals. We stay invested every step of the way, collaborating closely so we’re not just consultants—we’re partners in building something meaningful.”
What is your favorite source of renewable energy and why?
“I’m less about picking favorites and more about what’s right for the project. I’m a big supporter of innovation—anything that pushes the envelope on sustainable development. It’s about using the right technology, in the right place, for the right reasons.”
What project is your favorite and why?
“One standout was a large data center project at the Reno Technology Center. I can’t share too much because of security, but what made it so fascinating was its offsite microgrid. It was a unique integration of infrastructure and renewable power, and a great example of how complex systems can work together to support sustainability.”
What’s your favorite solution to a challenge you’ve faced?
“When challenges pop up, I like to flip the script. Instead of just checking a box or solving for the immediate issue, I try to think bigger—how can we turn one constraint into three opportunities? That mindset has helped us deliver smarter, stronger solutions that ultimately make the project better overall.”
Why are you passionate about renewable energy?
“Because it’s the future—and not just in a technical sense. It opens up new avenues for development, new ways to think about infrastructure, and new possibilities for building communities that last. Being part of that evolution is exciting.”
Outside of KWRE, what are your favorite hobbies?
“I’m all about family time—especially when it involves cheering on my kids at their games. Sports are a big part of our life, and if I’m not on the sidelines with them, you might catch me at a 49ers game.”
What’s been your favorite moment at KWRE?
“There isn’t one single moment—it’s more about watching the continuous growth of our team. Seeing our collective expertise evolve and come to life on complex projects, that’s what makes this work fulfilling.”
