Power Players Spotlight: Nicole Medina

Power Players Spotlight: Meet Nicole Medina

What is your approach to helping clients meet their renewable energy goals?
I listen, problem-solve, and go the extra mile—bringing clients and teams together to turn goals into reality.

What is your favorite source of renewable energy and why?
“I love windmills because they look nice and you can still utilize the ground – I love seeing goats, sheep, and cows (and naming them all Sally) roaming around. My second favorite is Battery Storage (BESS) because it’s so versatile, it can be utilized with almost any source that’s generating power. From compact buildings in big cities to wide open utility-scale solar fields, they can go anywhere!”

What project is your favorite and why?
“When I talk to KWRE’s Power Players about their projects, I become fascinated by aspects I hadn’t thought about. For instance, we have a project in the desert and I found out that rain is a big deal so the team had to incorporate erosion control tactics. I’ve learned that wind farms are great on the coasts of the Great Lakes because they get a lot of gusty wind. Battery Storage (BESS) is popular in big cities because it can fit inside the existing (sometimes historical) buildings and it’s out of the way but still powering the city.”

What’s your favorite solution to a challenge you’ve faced?
“One time, I met a client at a conference and they expressed they had difficulty with responsiveness with their engineers and it brought me so much joy to share that KWRE’s responsiveness is something we take pride in.”

Why are you passionate about renewable energy?
“My dad was always passionate about recycling, he would always tell me “I’m doing this for your future” and along the way I picked that up as well. Now I constantly think about what I can do to preserve our world. Renewable energy is the next step in a cleaner and greener world.”

Outside of KWRE, what are your favorite hobbies?
“Outside of work, I like to read, travel, take pictures, paint, complete puzzles, play board games, paddleboard, hike, and spend time with family and friends.”

What are you currently reading?
“I’m currently re-reading the A Court of Thorns and Roses series – it’s one of my comfort reads!”

What’s been your favorite moment at KWRE?
“I have a lot of favorite moments, from lunch with my coworkers on Employee Appreciation Day, to the most recent Holiday Party where the table in front was heckling me to get closer to the mic, to taking a wizards test with my mentor and boss.”
